I am a climbing and mountain enthusiast who has lived every day of the last 30 years for the chance to be out climbing the crags and walking the mountains. My excitement at the prospect of a day in the hills, whether for work or play remains just as it was when starting out as a teenager all those years ago.
In 1996, after many years of having fun gaining both personal and work experience I gained the Mountain Instructor Certificate (the highest UK award for mountaineering instruction summer and winter).
I have been a full time Outdoor Instructor in a variety of activities since 1987. Working in most sectors of Outdoor Instruction including Local Education Authority centres; small private centres; Corporate Development and Teambuilding; skills instruction and guiding with my own private clients and freelance work for other Guides and Instructors. Over the last 8 years I have worked as an Associate Instructor on a variety of courses at Glenmore Lodge, Scotland’s National Mountaineering Centre, including training other instructors for the Scottish Winter Mountain Leader Award.
Over these many years I have developed an in depth knowledge of most of the major climbing and walking venues of the UK and many of the esoteric ones too!
Travels abroad have included extensive alpine mountaineering, rock and ice climbing in Europe, North America, Scandinavia and New Zealand. (See favourite routes list).
I have never climbed right at the cutting edge but I always enjoy being out in the hills whether walking, scrambling, climbing easy classics or more testing routes both in summer and winter.
I firmly believe that this means I have a greater empathy for the aspirations, concerns and needs of the majority of hill walkers and climber’s like you and me.
