Currently (Monday 10th), the weather forecast for Saturday is cold (near freezing) with light winds and cloudy. We will check final forecasts and give an update on Thursday, but hopefully this time the race will go ahead!
EVENT CENTRE / LOCATION: Nant Bwlch Yr Haearn Outdoor Education Centre, LL27 0JB.Grid Reference: SH778593
The Centre is located on the road through the Gwydir forest at the top of the hill, partway between Tŷ Hyll and Gwydir Castle. Find us on Google Maps.
PARKING: Please try to share transport where possible as parking will be limited. On arrival, please park considerately, a member of centre staff will be on hand to direct you. Overflow parking will be available in adjacent forest car parks. Llyn Sarnau car park is right next door. Hafna mine GR780600 (Llanrwst side) is approx. 600m away. Cyffty Mine GR772588 (Tŷ Hyll Side) is approx. 400m away. Please do not park on forest tracks around the centre unless directed to do so. These tracks are in use by local residents in order to access their properties.
DOGS: Dogs are not allowed on the race with competitors. The exception is for Medical Assistance dogs through prior arrangement with the race organiser. The Centre and grounds are in constant use by visiting school groups so visitors please keep dogs on a lead and tidy up after them.
RACE REGISTRATION: Registration will be open from 9am until 10am where you will be able to pick up your race number and RaceTek timing wristband. Copies of the race maps will be on display along with any specific kit requirements. Toilets available at registration.
RACE START TIMES: Race briefing will be at 10:15am at the centre. We plan to start ALL races soon after 10:30am. The race start is a 5 minute walk from registration.
TERRAIN / ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS: All routes will use a mixture of forest roads and single track paths starting and finishing from Nant Bwlch Yr Haearn Outdoor Education Centre. This event WILL involve running on wet ground, slippery rocks and treeroots, some steep and sometimes loose rocky ground. The routes will be marshalled at key decision points and marked by arrow signs, red/white tape and/or small orange flags throughout. Although this is a quieter time of year, please be aware of, and respect, other forest users (walkers and mountain bikers).
KIT REQUIREMENTS: All runners must bring, and be prepared to wear or carry, full kit – a final list of these requirements will be displayed at registration. Full body cover (wind/waterproof top and bottoms), hat or buff, trail running shoes. Race numbers MUST be visible on the outside of clothing.
EMERGENCY PROCEDURE: All runners MUST report to the finish even if you decide to retire from the race. Information about injured runners should be reported to the next marshal point on the course (First Aid + radio communication with race HQ). A sweeper will follow the last runner on the course.
SOUP & ROLL: There will be free soup and roll provided for all runners and marshals in the centre dining room from 11:15 onwards. Bring your race number.
REFRESHMENTS: The kitchen will also be selling teas / coffees, sausage baps, chips and cakes …. So bring some cash. These will be available from 9am.
PRIZE CATEGORIES: Prize giving will take place as soon as all runners are back in. Prizes will be awarded to the first 3 Male & Female overall in the 5km and 10km race, and then winners of each age group category (U23 / SEN / V40 / V50 / V60 / V70).
